Gordon Brown has decided to Nationalise Northern Rock

The new Executive Chairman Ron Sandler said " There is no guarantee they will succeed"

Mr Sandler has been charged with finding a viable business plan for the lender and was speaking after meeting managers and staff.

He said that bank was well placed to recover from the problems that were started by a slump in the US housing market and led to a freezing up of global credit markets.
But, he cautioned that "nothing is guaranteed in this world".

"All possible solutions carry with them an element of risk," he added.
Mr Sandler explained that it would take years for the bank to pay back its loans from the taxpayer.

When asked about the loans he said: "It is clearly unrealistic to talk about months. We are clearly talking about a period of some years."

The Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been defending the government's decision to nationalise Northern Rock.

At a Downing Street briefing he called it "the right move at the right time for the right reasons".
The government's move has been fiercely criticised by shareholders who face losing almost all of their investment.

Shadow chancellor George Osborne said the nationalisation plans were "catastrophic," and that they would be opposed by the Conservatives.

Who knows who's hands they could end up in?

All British citizens must be subject to British laws

Baroness Warsi has described the comments made by Archbishop Rowan Williams about Sharia law as "unhelpful", saying they would add to the confusion that already exists in our communities.
The Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion and Social Action explained the important principle was that of "equality", with people of all backgrounds and religions being treated equally before the law.
She said freedom under the law allows respect for some religious practices, but stressed: "Let's be absolutely clear - all British citizens must be subject to British laws developed through Parliament and the courts."
I agree with everything Baroness Warsi says, there must be equality right through the Legal system.
One thing they could start by doing is getting rid of "Positive Discrimination"
How can Discrimination be positive?
Discrimination causes diversity, and diversity causes hatred, and hate is a wasted emotion.
Every one should be equal under the eyes of the law but there's things we could do to make everything equal.

Weekly Bin Collections Axed By 155 Councils

New figures show that almost half of all councils have axed weekly rubbish collections.

The Government has been forced to admit that 155 English councils, representing 18 million people, have scrapped weekly bin collections - and in Northern Ireland, a staggering 90% of councils have scrapped them.

But not one of the councils who have done away with weekly collections has reduced council tax.

Labour Ministers have effectively given the green light to the end of weekly collections, by telling councils that cutting collections will help meet 'annual efficiency' targets.

Eric Pickles, the Shadow Secretary of State for Local Government, said we were witnessing the "slow death of weekly collections", and warned that it would lead to a rise in fly-tipping.
Remember your Council Tax in Tameside has just gone up a whopping 5.3%
Is this REAL VALUE FOR MONEY?
Story from www.conservatives.com

Why Vote Conservative?

1) Putting more REAL police officers on the streets of Tameside.
2) Introducing two-hour free parking on council-owned car parks.
3) Guaranteeing the future of your weekly black bin/food waste collection – something residents in parts of Ashton, Hyde and Stalybridge no longer have.
4) Ensuring every child is numerate and literate by the age of six.
5) Providing more facilities for the young, elderly and vulnerable.
With your support we can make a change for the better in Tameside.
It’s time for a change - It’s time for the Conservatives.

Fruit Cake!

I'm starting to worry about a certain person in Dukinfield.Who has had to close his Website "Due to a legal technicality my website will have to close down until I have sorted the issues, someone raised unfairly in my opinion"
I'm woried, because some of his comments recently have offended a number of people,
and couldn't be posted by a person who is clearly thinking straight.
I suggest this person goes and has a talk with his Doctor as obviously the pressure is getting to him.

Remembering The Flowers Of Manchester 6th February 1958

The Flowers of Manchester

One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,Seven great football stalwarts conceded victory, Seven men will never play again who met destruction there,The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester
Matt Busby's boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,This great United family, all masters of their trade,The pilot of the aircraft and the skipper Captain Thain,Three times they tried to take her up and twice turned back again.
The third time down the runaway disaster followed close,There was ice upon the wings and the aircraft never rose,It ran upon the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned. And seven of the team were killed when the battered aircraft burned.
Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England's side. And Ireland's Billy Whelan and England's Geoff Bent died,Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,Before the blazing wreckage went ploughing through the snow.
The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew, and one of them was Big Swifty, we never will forget, the greatest English 'keeper who ever graced a net.
They said that Duncan Edwards had an injury to his brain,They said that Jackie Blanchflower would never play again,Matt Busby he was lying there, the father of the teamSix months or more did pass before he saw another game
Oh, England's finest football team its record truly great, its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.Seven men will never play again, who met destruction there, the flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester.
